A session is one conversation with one agent, in one folder, on one machine. Everything you set up happens around the message box.
Start a session
- Press ⌘N, or click New session in the sidebar.
- Under the message box, choose the machine. It is this Mac or an SSH host, and the menu appears when you have more than one.
- Choose the folder: pick from Recent, choose Choose Folder…, or choose No Folder to work in an empty folder of its own.
- For a git folder, choose the branch, New Branch… or New Worktree…. See Branch, rewind and worktrees.
- In the bar at the bottom of the message box, check the account, model, effort and permission mode.
- Type your message and press ↵.
BeyDock remembers the account you last used for a folder and preselects it the next time you choose that folder.
The message box
From left to right:
- + adds files or images. Paste Image is ⇧⌘V. You can also drop files onto the box.
- The microphone dictates your message. Pick the microphone and language under Settings › General › Dictation.
- The permission mode icon sets what the agent may do without asking. Press ⇧⇥ to cycle through the modes. See Permissions and approvals.
- The account button shows the account and a ring with its usage.
- The model menu picks the model. ⌘1 to ⌘4 choose the first four. More are under More models.
- The effort button appears for models that have effort levels. Slide from Faster to Smarter, or leave it on Auto.
Press ↵ to send, ⇧↵ or ⌥↵ for a new line, and esc to stop a running turn.
Slash commands and mentions
- Type
/for commands. BeyDock's own are/model,/effort,/plan,/permissions,/rename,/fork,/rewindand/clear. Your skills and the provider's commands are listed too. - Type
@to mention a file or folder, or to pick an agent target for Delegation.
Some commands are unavailable for a provider. The menu then shows why, for example that Codex has no plan mode.
Side panels
Panels open next to the session. Toggle them from the View menu:
- Details: ⌥⌘I
- Background Tasks: ⌥⌘B
- Changes: ⌥⌘D
- Files: ⌥⌘E
- Terminal: ⌥⌘T
- Browser: ⌥⌘P
Titles and housekeeping
The provider writes the session title. Until it arrives, your first message stands in as the title. You can rename a session from the sidebar menu or with /rename; your name is kept. Right-click a session in the sidebar to pin, archive or delete it.
A session you aren't viewing stops its agent process after a while to free memory, and your next message resumes it. You can change this under Settings › General › Memory.
